Here is the complete new treatment plan I am using:

(In order for this treatment plan to make sense to you, you should have already read my theory on the cause of HS, which can be found at:
http://www.lastapple.com/jason/hs/hidradenitis_treatment1.htm )

Behavior and supplement treatment:

Dietary:

  1. Decrease sugar, carbohydrate and alcohol consumption.
  2. Drink a lot of water.
  3. Take a fiber supplement. (a)

External:

  1. Wash HS affected area with Betadine solution daily. (b)
  2. Wash head to toe with Dial Antibacterial body wash daily (or every shower). (c)
  3. Wash head to toe with Nizoral A-D shampoo every 3 days. (d)

Internal Supplements:

  1. Olive Leaf Extract (e)
  2. Acidophilus (or Multidophilus) (f)
  3. Multi-Vitamin (g)
  4. Coral calcium (h)
  5. Zinc (Added back to treatment as of 8/9/05. See treatment diary for reason) (i)

Explanation of product usage:

a)      I am taking a fiber supplement to help move waste material and dead Candida quickly through my system for elimination.

b)     I am using Betadine to kill all micro-organisms in the affected area.

c)      I am using Dial antibacterial body wash to prevent harmful bacteria from colonizing areas of my skin that were once inhabited by the pathogen.

d)     I am using Nizoral A-D shampoo to prevent re-colonization by fungal pathogen

e)      I am taking Olive Leaf Extract to destroy fungal pathogens in my GI tract. *(please see note at the bottom of this page)

f)       I am taking multidophilus to replace beneficial bacteria in my GI tract.

g)       I know that I don't eat enough healthy foods, so I am taking a multi-vitamin to make up for what is not in my diet.

h)       I am taking a calcium supplement to help change my body's pH from an acidic environment to a more alkaline environment.

i)       I am taking a zinc supplement to aid my immune system.

There’s the list of exactly what I am using, as well as how and why I am using these products.  As you can see, I shop at Walgreens.  Not all of these products will be available from a drugstore.  You will probably have to go to a health food store to find Olive Leaf Extract and a good Acidophilus product.  I don’t recommend the chewables or the cheap kind.  The ones you want will require refrigeration.  You do not need to purchase the same brands as I have listed here.  Other brands may work better, worse, or about the same.  I do not have experience with any brands other than these because I just started the treatment myself.  These particular products were chosen because of their price and availability.

How to use products:

Take the following supplements daily with your first meal or a large glass of water:
1. Take one (1) multivitamin
2. Take one (1) Olive Leaf Extract
3. Take one (1) Acidophilus (or multidophilus)
4. Take one (1) Calcium
5. Take a fiber supplement
Take one (1) Olive Leaf Extract and 30mg of zinc (I cut the pills in half) with lunch.
Take one (1) Olive Leaf Extract and 1 Calcium with dinner.
Take one (1) Olive Leaf Extract and 30mg of zinc (I cut the pills in half) before going to bed.

In the shower:
Use antibacterial body wash every day. Use Nizoral A-D shampoo as a body wash ever three (3) days (following antibacterial body wash). Between Nizoral uses, use Betadine on HS affected areas.

By the end of the first week, you should already see some good results.  It is not necessary to begin using all of the products at once. If you can not get all of the products used here, at least get:

Dial antibacterial body wash (a big bottle is about $9)

Nizoral A-D shampoo (this should cost around $12)

Olive Leaf Extract (unfortunately this is rather expensive.  A bottle with 120 capsules runs about $40 or more)

and a good acidophilus product (this can cost $15 or more).

Those are the essentials.  The rest of the supplements are important, but you can add those later.  If you can not even get all of the essentials, get the Dial antibacterial body wash and the Nizoral A-D dandruff shampoo.  This will get you started, and these alone can really improve your condition.  Get the Olive Leaf Extract and Acidophilus next.

And that is the routine to continue in order to maintain your health.  Feel free to adjust your dose or usage of any of the products listed here according to your need and your reactions, but be sure to read product labels and warnings.  Research all products and be aware of any potential side effects.

KEEP PRODUCTS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!

While these products are designed to be helpful in the recommended doses, some can kill if taken in larger quantities or used incorrectly.

Also, the material safety data sheet for Betadine solution states that mixing Betadine solution with an equal amount of Hydrogen Peroxide 3% resulted in EXPLOSION after 100 minutes, so I do not recommend using these products together.  In fact, keep them away from each other!

As you can see, the treatment is simple.  It only requires the use of a few products in the shower and taking a few pills every day.  I take 4 in the morning when I wake up (1 multivitamin, 1 Acidophilus, 1 Olive leaf extract, 1 calcium), 1 Olive leaf extract and 30mg of zinc (half of one pill) with lunch, 1 Olive leaf extract and 1 calcium with dinner, and 1 Olive leaf extract and 30mg of zinc (half of one pill) at bedtime.  Could it be any simpler?

Diet:

Yeah, the part we all hate…  As for diet, I recommend trying to cut down on carbohydrates, sugar and alcohol, but don’t feel too bad if you cheat on this diet.  Cutting down on these things just helps to starve the little buggers that are giving us problems.  The nice thing is that this program will decrease your cravings for carbohydrates, sugar and alcohol, so it’s actually easier to cut down on them.  How do you like that, a treatment for HS that will help you if you are dieting?  Pretty cool.  I know this works from experience.  I also recommend the use of a fiber supplement daily in order to keep your bowels moving because we have a lot of waste material (dead organisms, toxins and stuff) to get out of our systems.  Finally, try to drink a lot of water.  This is always a good recommendation for everyone.  Drink water constantly.  It helps with the bowels and cleansing of the entire body.

Final thought:

It’s all about using the correct types of products to treat the correct pathogens in the right places, and restore balance to your system.

I will try to answer any questions you may have.  Feel free to email me at:

I hope this treatment works at least as well for you as it has been working for me.
